doing the best we can

Since starting school, we have learned more of chick 1's inclination towards creative and imagination based activities. Each parent's evening the teachers say that she has the ability, but is a bit of a day dreamer so often lacks motivation if it's not creative/art based work.

Since moving schools, we have done our best to try and work with her on improving her literacy and maths skills with 1:1 work in the morning and evenings. It can be like pulling teeth at times as she will literally try everything to get out of doing any sort of work.

However, over the past couple of months, we've really seen her make progress with her literacy work. Her handwriting and spellings are really starting to improve and we couldn't be prouder of the results she's managed to achieve in her spelling tests.

Today, she came bounding out of class waving this special rosette which she received for exceptional handwriting.  Despite having 31 in her class, I am really grateful that her teachers make time to praise the her and others in her class, making them feel special and motivated to learn.

I've been trying to come up with a way of celebrating the successes in the family. My sister made something which I thought was really lovely ages ago - basically a frame and inside was pinned the various achievements of each of the family from the recent weeks.

Here is what I came up with ...

We will be able to wipe the message clean as it is a dry wipe pen on glass. I'm thinking it might be nice to keep a record of all the achievements over the year and then review them all at the end of this year.
