notice the little things

Today, rather than rushing home to start my to-do list like I would usually. I decided to let Chick 2 out of the pushchair to walk part of the way home so he could get a better look at some of the gorgeous Autumn leaves that have begun falling .

He loved the freedom of being able to kick his little feet through carpet of yellow, red and orange. I caught myself on several occasions trying to hurry him when he was picking up what felt like the 15th leaf. It's so easy to keep rushing from place to place and not really notice things that are around you.

Toddlers are great helpers in reminding me to savour the tiny details and teaching me to stop and take more notice. For example, as I was guiding him down the usual path back home, he suddenly ran off in a different direction across the grass. It wasn't until I looked up at the direction he was running in that I noticed the swing. On closer inspection, it looks like it's been there years. I'd never noticed it hanging there until today.

We both took it in turns spinning and swinging. I don't know what it is about swings, but every time I get on one it makes me feel like I'm 6 again. Especially this type of T-shaped wooden swing.

We even found some mushrooms poking through the grass.

We then took it in turns chasing each other home.

The extra 30 minutes it took to get home was well worth it.

The washing up, laundry and toy covered floor was still there, but I felt invigorated and refreshed from giving nature and childhood a little extra time.

  1. love those pics - and fancy finding a "Penrallt" swing - right on your doorstep!

  2. It is amazing what you notice when you take the time to slow down for a minute to enjoy. It looks like you had a great time. Thank you for sharing this post in the All For Mamas Link Party Week 3 #allformamas. I will share this to the facebook group page, my page, twitter and pinterest

  3. Sounds like a wonderful day and a good reminder to let our kids call the shots every once in a while, all that other stuff can wait!!!
